About Us

The Elderly Nutrition Program as the first program to operate under the NWTHRA.

The Ombudsman Program and the Senior AIDES Program were established later. The NWTHRA has now expanded its service to offer Public Transportation which includes an Access to Jobs Program, and Homemaker Services.

Purpose of the Nutrition Program

The mission of The Nutrition Program’s mission statement is to outreach and provide both congregate and home delivered meals, and nutrition education, to the 60 plus population and adult consumers with disabilities.

The Nutrition Program provides congregate meal settings to elderly consumers and home delivered meals to the elderly and adults with disabilities.  We are dedicated to improving, enhancing and expanding home and community-based services in the nine (9) counties of Northwest Tennessee:  Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion, and Weakley.  The staff of the Nutrition Program pledges to do the right thing every day.  We want our consumer to receive top quality service in the best way we know how.  We welcome comments and are here to serve.  If we do not receive your comments we will not know what we are doing wrong.  We want to do what is right.

Where to Obtain Services

There are 18 Nutrition Sites and 38 homebound meal routes located in the nine counties of Northwest Tennessee. To apply for a home delivered meal or make a reservation for a lunch meal at the site call or contact the Nutrition Site in your area.

Nutrition clients are asked to let site manager or county coordinator know by 9:00 a.m. each day if they are going to eat lunch, if they are not going to eat, someone on the waiting list will be called to fill in, otherwise, the meal will be wasted.

Menus

Menus are planned quarterly to offer variety and stimulate a poor appetite.  Each menu is analyzed to determine that all meals meet the 2000 Dietary Guide-lines for Older Americans.  RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances) as determined by the Food and Nutrition Board of National Academy of Science. Menus are approved and signed by a registered dietitian. Each meal contains a 3-ounce entrée, 2 (1/2 cup) serving of vegetables and/or fruit, bread, milk, a dessert and butter. Meals are catered by Valley Services in Milan, Tennessee.

Contributions are Encouraged

Every client receiving a Title III-C meal is encouraged to make a free will contribution based on their monthly income. A suggested contribution schedule is available at all nutrition sites. All contributions are confidential; no one will be denied a meal if they cannot make a contribution. U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Coupons are accepted. All contribution money is used within the program year to enhance the program. If you would like more information about making a tax-deductible contribution you may call the Northwest Tennessee Human Resource Agency Nutrition Program (731) 587-4213.
